The dashiki (danshiki as some others call it) is a colorful outfit with a distinct design. You can always know someone is wearing a dashiki whenever you see them even from afar. It’s to Africans what a suit is to the Europeans. Wearing it makes you stand out from the crowd on any occasion.

Who can wear a dashiki?

Anyone can wear a dashiki. Boy, girl, daddy, mummy, uncle, sister, aunty, etc. Anyone who can afford the dashiki material can wear it. By the way, the dashiki is very affordable and is relatively easy to cut and sew. We included videos to help ye tailors.

Can I wear a dashiki to work?

Of course, you can wear a dashiki to work, only if your office permits you to. For some offices in Nigeria, there are days you’re allowed to wear a native outfit to work. There are different styles and methods of sewing the dashiki, but they’re similar. Your cutting pattern may vary from the pattern shown in the video below. By the way, I’m not the one in the video below. Before you give your tailor the dashiki material to cut and sew for you, do the following.

  1. Ask for samples of their previous works.
  2. Take a look at the style guide book/catalog and pick a suitable style for yourself.
  3. Negotiate the price properly and make a 60% downpayment.
  4. Set a delivery date. Ensure you call the tailor two days before the delivery date to know if they’ve sewed your dashiki.
