Alluring Dashiki Designs You'll Love (Updated)

The dashiki is originally an African print dress that was made popular by Walter Eugene King (Oba Efurotola Oseijeman Adebalu Adefunmi).








Oba toured the world of the Yorubas in different parts of the world especially in Cuba from where he got the name. After his sojourn, he returned to the US where he set up a small scale business which focused solely on producing African print dresses. This I believe was borne out of the need to make high quality materials while preserving the original natural African designs.

The word dashiki is actually an Hausa word "yar ciki" meaning cap. In Ghana, the dashiki African dress is referred to as Angelina. Quite a name I must Congress! The dashiki was made popular in Nigeria recently after top Nigerian artiste WizKid adorned the attire in the music video for his club banger "show out the money".

There are quite a few dashiki styles that I'm yet to see ladies adorn. The dashiki is much more popular among males than females. Below, I've handpicked 9 designs every one should have in their closet.

1. The dashiki gown. This design is very unpopular among the ladies, but its very chic, classic and much more awesome than what our celebrities wear whilst showing off two "non-confident" twins on their chest. The design in this picture is great, but you can also try the white and black or pink and white designs. A classic clutch bag will definitely turn heads to your direction as you step into the arena.

2. The dashiki print gown! This design is pretty simple. Flays can be added to the material to accentuate the designs. Its perfect for church or or dates with him. *winks.. You know what I mean!

3. The dashiki pencil skirt! Y'all need to see this! This skirt is a must have for ladies. It comes in various colors, each with a unique design. I particularly like the white on black design. Its really chic and classy and fits any kind of blazer you wear with it.

It's not everyday that you see your favorite celebrity rocking that awesome dashiki design.
