Suits are to the Europeans what native wears are to the Nigerian man. From the south to the north, and from the east to the west, most Nigerian men have at least one native style in their wardrobe.
This native style can either be an Ankara wear, an agbada, or the latest senator wears.
In this post, I’ve put together some of the latest men’s native wear styles.
There are some rules you should have in mind when wearing these native styles. They include the following…
- No sneakers, please. A quick look at some Instagram accounts will show you some images of men rocking white sneakers on their suits. Well, our native wears won’t look great with sneakers.
- Wear sandals or shoes. They both work for casual and formal events. However, if the event is like “formal formal”, you know… please go ahead and wear a shoe.
- No unnecessary bling-bling on your neck when you’re wearing a native wear. Keep things simple with one neck chain.
- Lastly, don’t wear tight fitting native wears. It will make you look like you borrowed it or that you don’t have money to see a new one. Instead, wear slim fit ones that will complement your physique.
That’s about it our rules so far…
