Amirul Arefeen wrote an article about two years ago where he summarized the answer to this question in a simple sentence.

I quote; “Denim is potato. Jeans are french fries.”

The answer is simple. Jeans was first introduced in the late 19th century by Levi Strauss.

Since the time Levi made the first jean, it has become a must-have clothing in every man’s wardrobe. It has a universal appeal and knows no gender barriers unlike some other pieces of clothing.

Denim, on the other hand, is the type of cotton fabric used in making the jeans. The denim fabric is made of heavy twills of cotton from which it is woven. The denim is dyed to give a specific color that gives the jeans its color.

Types of Denim

There are 5 types of denim. They include the

  1. Dry denim.
  2. Poly denim.
  3. Salvage denim.
  4. Ramie-cotton denim.
  5. Stretch denim.

Each of these types of denim has their own unique characteristics which give the end jeans product its own features. Now you know the difference between the denim and the jean.
