In the western world, the dress code for business meetings is formal – you have to wear a suit for the greater part of your career.
Does that mean you can’t do business if you’re not dressed in a suit?
Well, of course, you can…
But our focus isn’t on the western world. We’re focusing on Nigeria as our case study.
First things first…
Suits or not, whoever wants to do business can still do business.
It’s not the suit that plays the game, it’s the individual donning the suit. In fact, Neymar signed a $200+ million dollar contract wearing something that was miles away from looking like a suit.
However, if you work under an employer and you’re mandated to wear a suit to work for a presentation or a business meeting, please do that. Jobs are hard to come by nowadays. 😎
There are a few things to consider before selecting a native design you’ll wear for a meeting.
For Business Meetings
For formal business meetings, we suggest choosing dark-colored wears. In essence, colors like navy blue, black, brown, and even green are great colors for you.
If you’re going for a non-formal business meeting, try to go with any of the colors I mentioned above.
Red Color Isn’t Suitable For Business Meetings
Don’t go with a red native design to a business meeting. Don’t! Red isn’t an appropriate color for a business event whether formal or informal.
The red color will attract a great deal of attention to you as you’ll probably be the only person in the room wearing red. There’s an exception; if the dress code is red, then by all means obey.
However, a touch of black on that red native design will go a long way to blend your outfit together. Don’t forget to take on a black shoe – very important.
Combining Colors
You can combine colors to get something new.
For instance, a black trouser on a grey or white senator wear with a black shoe to match.
Do you catch the drift?
In addition to that, try to mix Ankara styles for men with your native designs.
Be wary of the colors that you choose. To be on a safe side, use a black trouser to douse the colors in your outfit.
Agbada Too Can Be Classified As A Native Design
There have not been many arguments about this but let’s state it clearly that the Agbada too is undeniably one of the most sought after native designs for guys.
This stems from the fact that it brings good attention to the wearer and is perceived to be reserved for the rich.
In fact, not long ago, a popular Nigerian fashion designer was said to be charging almost N250k to make agbada for the elite Nigerian big boys.
As for accessories…
Make sure you have the right clothing accessories for what you’re wearing. A wristwatch, men’s purse, good walking stick for style, and of course, a good cologne to finish off your enemies… #pepperthem
